[gaming] Sims 3 ISBI Legacy: The Chaos Legacy 2.2

Previously on the Chaos legacy: Abby and Stiles had their first baby, a boy named Brandon, and after a far too long babyhood and toddlerdom, he became a child. Then they had their second (and last) baby, a girl named Babs, and the heir race truly began.

[gaming] Sims 3 ISBI Legacy: The Chaos Legacy 2.1

Previously on the Chaos Legacy: Abby and Stiles got right to work producing potential heirs, and continued to be unbelievably competent, autonomously cleaning and cooking and using the toilet and taking themselves to bed when they are tired. GOOD GRIEF, PEOPLE, THIS IS AN ISBI, RIGHT?! The update ended with baby Brandon’s birth, and that’s where we’ll pick up.

(Note: I have the baby and toddler stages set to the minimum of two days, because I hate babies and toddlers.)

[gaming] Sims 3 ISBI Legacy: The Chaos Legacy 1.3

Previously on the Chaos Legacy: Abby took a trip to the beach to cheer herself up after that whole fiasco with Xander There’s-a-Poison-Apple-with-Your-Name-On-It Clavell, where she met Stiles McGraw. They took a shine to each other, so after she continued with her autonomous cleaning and skilling for awhile, they ended up dating, getting engaged, and getting married. Now Abby’s feeling a little weird, and I’m hoping pregnancy is looming for them.

[gaming] Sims 3 ISBI Legacy: The Chaos Legacy 1.2

Still cross-posting earlier gaming posts from where they were originally posted on Livejournal. (I want them here, too, as a backup. I’ll be moving the images over here, too, in time.)

cover 1.2

Previously on the Chaos Legacy: Abby Chaos is a witch obsessed with cleanliness and solitude, working her way up the medical career and trying to be a little more logical each day. She had a whirlwind romance with Xander Harris Clavell, but his fear of commitment broke her heart. Beware crossing a witch, Xander. There’s a poison apple with your name on it.

[gaming] Sims 3 ISBI Legacy: The Chaos Legacy 1.1

I’m going to start cross-posting my game writing, so I’ll be copying the first few posts here over the next week or two. There may be some broken links; I’m still transferring images to a new host, because I’ve been having issues with the original.

Chaos Legacy cover

Opening: I’ve been playing Sims regularly for years, at least since Sims 2 was first released, but I’ve never actually tried to write up anything before, mostly because I am a super impatient player. I don’t use hacks or custom content, I don’t take pictures, I don’t do anything but play and sometimes text my BFF with ridiculous things my Sims have done. (One time, a horse walked through a wall, got stuck in the house, and I had to destroy half the side to get it back out again. BFF got plenty of texts after that.) (Also, one time a werewolf and a fairy had babies, and I wanted them to be Fair Wolves.) (Didn’t happen.)

But I’ve been reading alittlestrange’s and thestalkysims’ legacies, and they’ve inspired me to give it a try myself. I’m doing an ISBI challenge for this legacy, because I have plenty of other games where I play all the Sims, but I don’t think I’ve ever continued playing an ISBI legacy past the first or second generation. Too impatient. We’ll see how this goes.

I’m even more grateful for all the entertainment I’ve experienced reading legacies, because it is a ton of work. I thought it would be a lot of work, but it is even more than I ever expected. My hat’s off to all the people who do this regularly, and all the joy they bring their readers.

Note: I play on a laptop, and don’t have an external mouse, so my angle control is spotty, which definitely shows up in the photos. I don’t have custom content (though, as you’ll see, there are some hacks that I’m considering), and I play with the walls partially down most of the time. This is my first time trying to take Sim photos. It’s a struggle. Also, I cuss quite a bit, though I’ve toned it down in my writing.

You could say I’m tempting fate by calling this the Chaos Legacy. In fact, I am intentionally tempting fate. Bring on the chaos!

(Spoiler: Part one has very little chaos, alas.)

More than 100 pictures and nearly 4000 words in this first part. Let’s do this.

[media] Media Monday: I don’t believe in printers. I don’t.

Books

I’m a Book Depository affiliate, so if you buy books using these links, I receive credit from Book Depository.

Just started AFTERWORLDS by Scott Westerfeld. I reread his Uglies trilogy + sequel earlier this year, and I hope I enjoy AFTERWORLDS just as much. Finished and reviewed UNDER THE LIGHTS by Dahlia Adler: 4.5 stars.

Movies

Sarah’s been telling me to watch Unfriended for awhile now, because, in her words, it’s just like a Point Horror, only better. Sarah and I LOVE (and LOVE to HATE) Point Horror, so this was enough for me, but her hubby also watched it and really liked it, which is unusual for horror movies. That convinced J to watch it with me.

Verdict: Sarah was right, it was very much a Point Horror on screen with social networking and technology. I found it ridiculous and cheesy and predictable, and a lot of fun. J hated it. A lot. Cheesy teen horror + technology is far more my style than his.

That being said, I do not believe so many of those teens had working printers set up. DO NOT BELIEVE. No one prints things anymore.

Television

I’m in the middle of yet another Criminal Minds rewatch, because I can have it on while I do other things, and I’ve had a hard time focusing on new television lately. Still need to get back to Pretty Little Liars.

Music

Nothing stands out, musically, this week, except listening to the high school drumline practice. Marching band season is coming.

Gaming

Update from the Media Monday: FAIR WOLVES FOR EVERYONE post: a werewolf mother and a fairy father will have one werewolf kid and one fairy kid, at least in the Sims 3 game I’m currently playing. So not quite a hybrid, but not a plain human baby, either. Werewolf toddler just started scratching at the furniture one day. Fairy baby was born with sparkly black wings.

Also, fairy baby is EVIL, so clearly she will be the heir in this legacy. EVIL FAIRY. (Redundant.)

Otherwise, nothing new.

[media] Media Monday: FAIR WOLVES FOR EVERYONE

Books

I’m a Book Depository affiliate, so if you buy books using these links, I receive credit from Book Depository.

Still reading WHAT WE LEFT BEHIND by Robin Talley and TOUCHED by Michelle Sagara, but didn’t have access to them for a bit, so read FEARSCAPE by Simon Holt (The Devouring #3) and TOP SECRET TWENTY-ONE by Janet Evanovich. I also finished FRENEMY OF THE PEOPLE by Nora Olsen, and reviewed it: 2.5/5 stars, mostly due to unbelievable dialog and plot.

An awesome Tumblr post convinced me to order AFTERWORLDS by Scott Westerfeld, and I can’t wait for my copy to arrive.

Finally, devoured UNDER THE LIGHTS by Dahlia Adler in just a few hours (in the middle of the night). Review to come later this week, but, spoiler, I LOVED IT SO MUCH. Vanessa is a new character of my heart. So much love for her and her story.

Movies

J hates superhero movies, but loves James Spader, and finally admitted he wanted to watch Avengers: Age of Ultron. It was my second time watching it, because I love superhero movies. I disliked it even more than the first time, but have some thoughts about what makes a monster and why Natasha calling herself a monster pissed me off so much. (It has to do with the act of creation making you a monster versus the inability to create, basically. I’m working through these thoughts.)

Television

J’s been watching a lot of House, so that’s been on in the background while I read, but otherwise, I’ve not see too much lately. Lost my momentum on Pretty Little Liars over the Fourth and haven’t picked it back up again.

Music

Not really listening to music over the past week. Did spend some time on podcasts, though, particularly Stuff You Missed In History Class and Ask Me Another.

Mostly, though, listening to drumline music. Minion (my oldest nephew) started marching band camp this week, and so there’s been drumming, drumming everywhere. I love it.

Gaming

Started a new Sims 3 game in which my werewolf character fell in love with a fairy NPC, and this exchange happened.

Carla: So if a fairy and a werewolf have a baby, what does the baby come out as?
Sarah: A Fair Wolf!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D
Sarah: (Or if sims: a regular human?)
Carla: … I WANT A FAIR WOLF.

[media] Media Monday: BUT WHAT IF ZOMBIE BEARS

Some links in this post are affiliate links, which means if you click the link, I receive a small benefit without any additional cost to you.

Books

Still reading WHAT WE LEFT BEHIND by Robin Talley and TOUCHED by Michelle Sagara, but someone on Twitter was talking about FRENEMY OF THE PEOPLE by Nora Olsen, and something about the conversation struck me hard, so I grabbed it and bumped it to the top of my reading list. Review later this week.

Movies

Finally watched Hotel Transylvania, and though I was not a fan of the use of the dead mother trope, and I found the romantic lead incredibly annoying, it was a super cute movie that left me laughing and smiling and, for a tiny bit, tearing up. Absolutely adorable, loved the father-daughter relationship, and I hope the sequel is just as sweet.

Television

Pretty Little Liars: Finally caught up to the current season, season six, and man. It is something. The end of season five and the beginning of season six had some torture porn esque elements I hated, in part because it really felt, for the first time, that the girls’ agency was completely removed, and that sucked hard, because one of the things I’ve enjoyed most is that no matter what happens, no matter the bad choices they make, the PLLs get to make choices and see them through. Still love the characters SO HARD.

Z Nation: J and I started this awhile back, and about halfway through got distracted and quit watching. When we realized it, we marathoned the last few episodes, and good lord, this show is ridiculous and cheesy and delightful. Zombienado. Zombie tsunami. Zombie bear. Zombies on drugs. It’s basically one big BUT WHAT IF ZOMBIE {THIS}, and it is a lot of fun.

Music

My mental health has not been great, and I’ve been listening to this song on repeat: “Lost in Darkness” by Escape the Fate.

Games

Nothing new on my gaming, but I just learned about the UpUpDownDown YouTube channel hosted by Austin Creed (aka WWE superstar Xavier Woods), and I am utterly charmed. My geeky little heart grew three sizes watching Creed and WWE superstar Seth Rollins play Turtles in Time (one of my fave classic games) and talk. As I said to Sarah, NERRRRRRRRDS. ADORABLE NERRRRRDS.

[media] Media Monday: Getting the Band Back Together

Some links in this post are affiliate links, which means if you click the link, I receive a small benefit without any additional cost to you.

Books

Still reading WHAT WE LEFT BEHIND by Robin Talley and just started TOUCHED by Michelle Sagara, which is the sequel to SILENCE, which I loved. (Review here.)

Movies

Had a mini-reunion with some of my law school bffs over the Fourth, and we went to see Magic Mike XXL. I haven’t watched the first one, but XXL is ridiculous amounts of fun. Watching it brought more joy than any other movie I’ve watched this year, despite my love of the Marvel cinematic universe and Jurassic Park series. Surprised the hell out of me that it was one of the most body positive movies I’ve seen lately, too.

Television

Pretty Little Liars: I’m racing through season five. Each time I sit down, I plan to watch one episode during lunch, and then I end up watching two or three in a row. I don’t even care where this story is going (well, more or less), I love the ride. The second half of the season has me filled with chosen family feelings. I love how those girls love each other and the people important to them. (Except for Ezra. Ezra can disappear any time.)

Music

The road trip home from Chicago was basically All Covers All the Time because I found out J had never heard any of the “Radioactive” covers, so I played them, and then of course my second favorite song to be covered, “Bad Moon Rising.” (My favorite is “Carol of the Bells” but I didn’t have any on my device.)

Radioactive: Imagine Dragons, Pentatonix and Lindsey Stirling cover, and the Dirty Tees mix.

Bad Moon Rising: Mourning Ritual and Thea Gilmore.

Games

No time to play because of Chicago road trip + reunion, but we finally got the band back together for some Rock Band, so that was pretty epic.

[media] Media Monday: Sleep all day, party all night…

Some links in this post are affiliate links, which means if you click the link, I receive a small benefit without any additional cost to you.

Books

Still reading SILENCE by Michelle Sagara and WHAT WE LEFT BEHIND by Robin Talley, but set them both aside to read THE CROSSROADS OF SHOULD AND MUST by Elle Luna, which law school BFF brought down. It is a beautiful book; the layout and design is well done, and the artwork really nice. I’m not sure how helpful it is otherwise, and a lot of it was a little too touchy feely for me, but it was an interesting read.

Movies

The Lost Boys: The June 27 #80slivetweet movie was TLB, which has been one of my favorite movies (and, until Lilo & Stitch came out, my absolute favorite) since I first saw in the late 90s. I had a blast watching and tweeting along with everyone, and loved the movie as much as ever. Plus the people who participate in the hashtag always have such smart, hilarious, and fun things to say. #80slivetweet is hosted by BlackGirlNerds, and is a fantastic experience every time.

Television

The Flash: I finally finished the last two episodes of the season. I love this show SO MUCH. It’s been one of my favorites this season, in large part because the characters are so wonderful. I am not a fan of how long they kept Iris in the dark, but other than that, I love it. I love it a lot.

And how much do I love Captain Cold and Golden Glider? Rogue siblings that snark at each other hard core. Delightful.

That ending, though. WTF? Cliffhanger what?

Pretty Little Liars: Somewhere around the end of season four/beginning of season five, I just stopped watching. And I did this twice, because I started a rewatch in early 2014 that ended the same way. I’m trying yet again, because I love this show and these characters. I’ve made it up to mid season four. I’m trying to push through so I can watch season six in a timely manner. Still hate the Aria and Ezra relationship, love the girls, love all the mothers and Emily’s father, and love Emily’s girlfriends and Caleb and sometimes Toby.

I’m finally into episodes I haven’t yet seen (starting after the Halloween episode that spun off the Ravenswood short-lived show). I am so glad that my hate on for Ezra has been (at least temporarily) validated. I’ve always found him creepy, and now he’s just acting creepier and creepier every time he’s on the screen. Even after (some) more truth came out about him, he’s still creepy as hell.

I’m currently a few episodes into season five, and wow. This show. This show.

Music

Impromptu road trip over the weekend up to St. Louis for a surprise mini law school reunion. It was a lot of fun, but I ended up driving two hours back by myself right before sunrise. Thank god I have a great collection of music to keep me awake. Top three from the road trip.

Games

Not a lot of game time this week because one of my law school BFFs was in town, and then we had that surprise mini reunion, but the little time I have for gaming was spent playing Marvel Puzzle Quest and Nations.
